DP World supports the Egyptian tourism sector by welcoming over 50,000 tourists in recent months
DP World in Sokhna, operator of the Port of Ain Sokhna in the Suez Canal Zone, and Egypt’s main trade gateway on the Red Sea, has welcomed 40 cruise ships with nearly 50,000 tourists to the country over the past few months.
The cruise ships, which arrived between November 2022 and March 2023, were received and handled by DP World’s teams in Sokhna, which now plays an increasingly important role in attracting cruise ships to the port. This is in line with the local government’s strategic focus on revitalizing the tourism sector, with an emphasis on organized tours and one-day excursions from its ports for passengers of cruise ships.
Urs Moll, DP World’s Country Manager for Egypt and CEO of DP World Sokhna, said: “We made all the necessary preparations to facilitate the reception of these mega cruise ships at Ain Sokhna Port, and we aim to provide them with a unique experience through our pioneering maritime solutions. We are confident that this will help promote trade in Egypt, as well as stimulate the tourism industry by offering access to many of the country’s incredible tourism sites”.
Moll added: “DP World in Sokhna has the latest technologies to meet the demands of our customers and to achieve the highest degree of flexibility in our operations. Moreover, we are also in the process of developing new innovative solutions to attract more international shipping lines to our port.”
Among the cruise ships that DP World Sokhna received during the period included some of the world’s newest and well known cruise ships, including “MSC World Europa”, “MSC Sinfonia”, “MSC Splendida”, and “Clio”, in addition to “Emerald Azzurra”, “Le Bougainville”, and “Le Champlain”, which are owned by some of the largest international shipping lines. DP World in Sokhna also succeeded in reaching agreements with these shipping lines to organize more regular trips in the future.
